The new “Minimum Cleanliness Score Commitment” launched in partnership with quality management platform Properly and set to be phased in over the next 6 months.
November 19th, 2020 - The “Minimum Cleanliness Score Commitment” is a pilot program between Properly and Booking.com, designed to raise and enforce hygiene and safety standards in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. Both companies hope that the initiative will go some way to helping the short-term rental industry recover more quickly from the downturn in the travel market.
Properly founder and CEO Alex Nigg explains that if a property listed on the platform consistently receives low cleaning scores from guests, it will be advised by email that it risks being delisted unless it utilises Properly's services, which will be paid for by Booking.com.
When a property manager or host participating in the Booking.com-sponsored pilot downloads Properly, the software comes preconfigured with Booking.com’s minimum cleaning quality requirements.
Pilot participants, as well as all other Properly users, also have a recently published COVID-19 checklist available in their cleaners' app, which is based on the World Health Organization’s guidelines for accommodation providers published on March 31.
“The fundamental notion behind this is there are a million different hosts, but there shouldn’t be a million different ways of cleaning.”
Properly founder and CEO Alex Nigg
Nigg explains that Properly helps to create a level playing field that applies to the whole industry with the exact same hygiene standards.”
Properly has signed deals with another global listing platform covering multiple markets and is in advanced negotiations with another global brand.
Properly was founded in 2012 to provide short-term rental hosts and managers with a complete quality management solution and certification framework for short-term rentals. The company claim nearly 50,000 users in 50 countries are using the Properly app.
Booking.com is an online accommodation reservation platform. It is owned and operated by Booking Holdings and is headquartered in Amsterdam. The website lists over 28 million properties and is available in 43 languages.
